Manufactured Landscapes

Photographer and filmmaker Edward Burtynsky makes tremendous statements about the present day environment through his stills and his film Manufactured Landscapes. His work is highly recommended to go along with our work in the institute.

Quilting and Tar Beach

Using found materials, one can create landscapes such as those inspired by Faith Ringold's Tar Beach. Check out the urban landscape in fiber arts via Ringold's work.

Materials for the Arts

Need materials for your classes? Materials for the Arts has an enormous warehouse full of items that can be used to make art including paper, fibers, etc. If you go, (please contact me, Anne, my school is nearby), parking is "challenging". You do need to sign up with MFA to get a slot and its recommended that you go with someone to help carry out what you get.

Introducing Lesson Study

An informative video on Lesson Study by Matt Karlsen on the Teaching History website which is a great resource for the teaching of history:

The Waters of Babylon

To go along with the teaching of Thomas Cole's The Course of Empire, Rachel suggests:

By the Waters of Babylon by Stephen Vincent Benet. Click on the title to read the story.
